Where landscapes grow again, the future begins

In Uganda, PERFUTURO combines landscape restoration with sustainable agriculture, creating long-term value for nature, local communities and investors.

REFORESTATION FOR SUSTAINABLE IMPACT.

Landscape Restoration in Uganda

In Soroti and Nwoya, PERFUTURO brings together reforestation, agroforestry, coffee cultivation and biochar. Restored landscapes create both ecological impact and economic potential.

TWO LOCATIONS. ONE VISION.

Our projects in Uganda

Soroti

In eastern Uganda, the project area in Soroti covers 10,000,000 m² – more than 1,400 football pitches! Reforestation and agroforestry come together here, with Arabica coffee playing a central role.

Nwoya

In northern Uganda, right next to Murchison Falls National Park, the project area in Nwoya covers 13,000,000 m² – equivalent to more than 1,800 football pitches. Robusta coffee and fruit trees are part of a resilient agroforestry system.

THINK BIG. GROW FOR THE LONG TERM.

Our vision for Uganda

The projects in Soroti and Nwoya are part of a long-term vision for Uganda. Starting with an area of 100,000,000 m², the restoration of key landscapes is set to expand step by step to as much as 250,000,000 m². To achieve this, PERFUTURO involves additional communities, government institutions and civil society organisations in the development.

THREE ELEMENTS. ONE SYSTEM.

A holistic approach to landscape restoration

Reforestation

A diverse mix of native and commercially valuable tree species supports the restoration of degraded land. PERFUTURO focuses on diversity rather than monocultures and involves local communities in the long-term development of the landscapes.

Agroforestry

Coffee grows alongside fruit trees and other crops. This diversity is intentional: trees help retain water in the soil, their leaves provide natural nutrients, and the interaction between plants creates a more stable ecosystem. This makes agriculture more resilient and productive over the long term.

Biochar

Agricultural residues are converted into biochar and returned to the soil. Biochar supports soil fertility and water retention, increases resilience to drought and stores carbon in the soil over the long term.

MEASURABLE IMPACT.

Our goals in Uganda

7,572,000 t CO₂
to be sequestered over 35 years through the restoration of degraded land.

+50% household income
within ten years for around 5,000 people in the project area. Additional income opportunities include forest products, fruit trees, beekeeping, ecotourism and biochar.

Protect biodiversity
Landscape restoration creates habitats for endangered species such as rhinos, elephants, buffalo, Uganda kobs and lions.

Make data transparent
TREEO technology supports the precise collection and verification of tree and CO₂ data.

THE FOUNDATION FOR REFORESTATION.

OUR OPERATIONS

Our nurseries in Soroti and Nwoya

At our nurseries in Soroti and Nwoya, we produce 1 million seedlings per location and season, bringing the total to 4 million seedlings per year. Permanent employees take care of cultivation and maintenance. Modern irrigation systems, continuous monitoring, 24-hour care and technologies for early fire detection and prevention support daily operations.

COFFEE CULTIVATION WITH LONG-TERM IMPACT

Coffee and Forest Restoration

Coffee is a central part of agroforestry in Soroti and Nwoya. Under the protection of trees, coffee plants benefit from a favourable microclimate, while diverse vegetation supports biodiversity and healthy ecosystems.

Restored landscapes also create economic potential: Arabica grows in Soroti and Robusta in Nwoya. Coffee keeps the land productive over the long term while creating local value and opportunities.

Our Benefits

Economic

  • Job creation for 4,700 people and their families in a region where around 30% live below the poverty line (total project area: 10,000 ha)

  • Provision of training in agroforestry and biochar to support food security and income diversification

Environmental

  • Promotion of sustainable land use and reforestation to drive carbon removal and enhance sequestration, supported by innovative dMRV tools for accurate tracking and certification

  • Protection and restoration of High Conservation Value (HCV) areas to preserve critical habitats and ecosystem services such as clean water, fertile soils, and biodiversity

  • Implementation of conservation measures to prevent biodiversity loss, exclude invasive species and GMOs, and ensure effective monitoring and mitigation

  • Ecosystem restoration to strengthen climate resilience and secure long-term environmental sustainability for nature and local communities

Social

  • Commitment to inclusive and equitable decision-making that involves all stakeholders and empowers vulnerable groups, especially women and youth (target: at least 40% women participation)

  • Promotion of gender-inclusive benefits and preservation of cultural heritage

  • Investment in long-term sustainability through environmental conservation and economic diversification

A NEW HUB FOR PERFUTURO IN UGANDA.

Our campus in Nwoya

On a site covering approximately 247,000 m², PERFUTURO is developing an integrated campus that will house its new headquarters. The site will also include a Visitor, Training & Research Centre, accommodation, agroforestry and coffee production.

Here, we will bring together operations, research, training and exchange. Nursery areas and coffee cultivation will be integrated directly into the campus concept, while also leaving space for the natural development of forest areas.

Headquarters

The new headquarters will become the central base for PERFUTURO’s activities in Uganda.

A shared space for research, training, seminars and events. The centre will be open to researchers, students and employees as well as partners and international guests.

Here, PERFUTURO makes sustainable and resilient agroforestry tangible in practice. A dedicated nursery and tree trail bring the concept to life on site.

The campus will include facilities for processing and storing locally produced coffee.

Guest houses and an Eco Lodge will give partners, customers and other guests the opportunity to experience PERFUTURO and the impact of its projects first-hand.

The campus will also include accommodation for permanent employees working in agroforestry and coffee production, as well as their families.

Winnie Acen

Our headquarters in Nwoya

In Nwoya, Winnie Acen ensures that our Uganda office is well-organized and that our local reforestation projects receive the best possible support. With her background in journalism and communications, she brings structure, clarity, and plenty of positive energy to the team every day.

On the ground, she is supported by Samuel Odeng (Head of Forest Project Development) and Felix Serugo (our specialist in CO₂ accounting and GIS).

DESIGNED TO BE CARBON NEUTRAL FROM DAY ONE.

Sustainable infrastructure
Sustainability starts with the construction of the campus. Local and recyclable materials as well as Ugandan craftsmanship play a central role. The architecture makes use of natural ventilation, while the development of the buildings will be entirely carbon neutral. Solar power with battery storage and rainwater harvesting will help make the campus as self-sufficient as possible.

RESEARCH IN ACTION.

Research & Training

The planned Research Centre will create a place for research, training and exchange around climate change, biodiversity and sustainable agroforestry. PERFUTURO works with Makerere University in Kampala, bringing scientific exchange and practical work together directly on site.

Our Certification

The carbon validation and calculation is conducted according to the CSI Carbon Standards International requirements, verified by CERES and additional biodiversity certification and Socio Economic benefits reaching 12 SDG goals.

Sustainable Development Goals

In UGANDA, we fulfil the following SDGs

LANDSCAPES DON’T CHANGE ON THEIR OWN.

Shape with us what grows tomorrow.

In Soroti and Nwoya, we show how reforestation, resilient agroforestry and sustainable production can work together to create ecological and economic impact. And the potential extends far beyond what is already growing today.
